HFC-125 (NAF S 125)
About HFC-125
HFC-125 (pentafluoroethane) is a colorless, odorless and electrically non-conductive clean agent gas used for fire suppression in high-value, occupied spaces. As a Halon replacement, it leaves no residue, poses zero ozone depletion potential, and extinguishes fires through heat absorption and chemical reaction.
How does HFC-125 work?
It works by removing heat from a fire via thermal absorption as it changes from liquid to gas, alongside interrupting the chemical combustion reaction. It is used for Class A, B, and C fires, making it ideal for protecting sensitive electronic equipment. When released, the gas spreads rapidly and extinguishes fire within seconds.
One of the major advantages of HFC-125 is that it leaves no residue after discharge. This means that there is no need for any kind of clean up after a fire is extinguished and equipment can be put back into operation quickly.
Refilling and Hydrotesting of HFC-125 Gas Cylinders
Just like other clean agent gases, refilling of HFC125 and hydrotesting of HFC125 cylinders have similar process. The cylinders are first visually inspected for any sign of damage or rusting, then they are filled with the agent and pressurized with nitrogen.
Uses of HFC-125 Gas Cylinders
- Data centers and server rooms
- Electrical control panels and switchgear rooms
- Telecommunication facilities
- Museums and libraries
- High-value assets
- Oil & Gas control rooms and power plants
