Argonite (IG-55)
What is Argonite (IG-55) ?
Argonite, also known as IG55, is an inert gas clean agent used in fire suppression systems. It is made from a mixture of 50% Nitrogen and 50% Argon which are atmospheric gases.
It is colorless, odorless, and non-toxic gas that is non-conductive and does not leave any residue after discharge.
How does Argonite (IG-55) works ?
When discharged at high pressure of 200 or 300 Bar, Argonite suppresses fire within seconds by reducing oxygen levels, maintaining safe breathability for humans. Argonite is environmentally friendly with zero ozone depletion and global warming potential.
Refilling and Hydrotesting of Argonite Gas Cylinders
Refilling of Argonite cylinders, especially high pressure refilling upto 300 bar must be done using proper equipment and trained people. Regular Hydrotesting of Argonite Cylinders in every 5 years is important to check the elasticity of the cylinders.
Refilling Process
The refilling process of Argonite cylinders ensures the system is properly charged, leak-free, and ready for safe operation during fire emergencies.
- Inspect cylinders for damage.
- Release remaining gas and evacuate contaminants.
- Refilling of Argonite cylinders at 300 Bar.
- Leak test and labeling of cylinders.
Hydrotesting Process
The hydrotesting process is carried out to check the strength and pressure holding capacity of Argonite cylinders, ensuring safe performance at high operating pressures.
- Depressurize of cylinders and removal of valves.
- Filling and pressurization of cylinder with water.
- Check for expansion or leakage.
- Drying of cylinders and refitting of valve.
- Test date stamping and certifications.
Uses of Argonite Gas
Argonite (IG-55) is a clean and eco-friendly fire suppression gas used to protect important and sensitive areas. It controls fire quickly without damaging equipment or leaving any residue.
