What is Inergen (IG-541)?

Inergen (IG-541) is an inert gas clean agent used in total flooding fire suppression systems. It is a blend of three naturally Nitrogen (52%), Argon (40%) and Carbon Dioxide (8%).

As these gases are already present in the air we breathe, Inergen is considered an environmentally safe and sustainable fire suppression solution. Inergen is colorless, odorless, electrically non-conductive and safe for use in normally occupied areas when properly designed as per fire safety standards.

How Inergen (IG-541) suppresses fire ?

Inergen is stored in cylinders at high pressure of 200 Bar or 300 Bar and is discharged as gas in closed spaces during fire. Due to its rapid dispersion, Inergen suppresses fire within seconds without leaving any residue or causing any damage to equipment.

The clean agent extinguishes fire by reducing the oxygen concentration to a level where combustion is not possible while maintaining enough oxygen levels making it safe and breathable for use in normal occupied spaces with human beings when designed and installed correctly.

Refilling Process

  • Visual Inspection of cylinders for any sign of damage.
  • Safe release of any remaining gas from the cylinder.
  • Refilling of Inergen cylinders upto 300 Bar using high pressure filling systems.
  • Leak testing of the cylinders after filling.
  • Labeling of cylinders with refilling details and next inspection date.

Hydrotesting Process

  • Complete depressurization of cylinders and removal of valve.
  • Filling of cylinder with water.
  • Pressurization of cylinder at its test pressure upto 450 Bar.
  • Rejection of cylinder showing signs of expansion, leakage or structural weakness.
  • Drying of cylinders and refitting of valve.
  • Test date stamping and certifications.

Uses of Inergen Gas

Inergen (IG541) is a clean and safe fire suppression gas used to protect important and sensitive areas without damaging equipment.

  1. Data Centers and Server Rooms
Protects servers and IT equipment without leaving any residue or causing damage.

  2. Electrical Control Panels and Switchgear Rooms
Safe for electrical systems as it does not cause short circuits.

  3. Telecommunication Facilities
Prevents fire damage while keeping communication systems running.

  4. Museums and Libraries
Protects valuable books, documents, and artworks without water damage.

  5. Oil & Gas Control Rooms and Power Plants
Provides safe fire protection in high-risk industrial areas.
